Environment Agency has just published the "irrigation prospects" for the 2024 season. Not surprisingly given all the rain we've had, these are "good". They have also just published their summary of the water company and regional planning group revised draft 2024 Water Resource Management Plans. This can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/a-review-of-englands-draft-regional-and-water-resources-management-plans & contains an interesting figure showing 2025 reductions in water company abstraction linked to Environment Destination - worth a look!

Purchase Orders have been issued to start work on the Norfolk Sustainable Abstraction (NSA) programme. Preparatory work has started on the BAWAG NSA programme and over the rest of the summer will involve setting up and testing our version of the EAs the Northern East Anglian Chalk (NEAC) model. The aim is to prepare for a meeting with the EA in October or November where we can discuss & agree the technical approaches that we will use to engage with both the EA Broads Plan and, in Chalk catchments in the north & north-west Norfolk, the National Framework for Water Resources. October 2022: Environment Agency publish Drought Update briefing note. See Environment Agency page for details. In summary, no return to normal flows expected until we experience a prolonged period of "effective" rainfall. This usually means in the autumn & winter and so the Drought status remains unchanged. Without above average rainfall over the winter, we remain at risk of drought in 2023.
